By any chance did you read the user's manual to at least get acquainted to your tool? I would look for the section on the manual that provides the info and steps for updating your tool.

First, always make a back of the original for cases where any news software updates might malfunction or for any instance that the data from the tool's SD card gets erased. It seems to happen to some folks.

Also search within the forums for upgrading to a "larger capacity SD card." It can save some trouble before you run the updates along with adding larger capacity for newer updates, etc.

You are not reading what I said.  My computer does not read the sd card so I can not either back it up or update it. From reading the inter net this seems to be a common problem. Some people sm to overcome the problem by rebooting thier computer but hi does not work with me.

I now have the full answer to the problem.
I purchased a new 8gb sd card and put it in the computer and found that I got the same result as the Sd card from the MD 802 . I then sent question to Microsoft to find out why my computer would not read the cards. They said that Windows XP did not support sd cards above 4gb so the inbuilt card reader in my computer would not read the 8gb card.
The answer is to purchase a stand alone USB card reader which supports SDHC which when plugged into the Windows XP unit enables it to read the higher capacity card. Thanks to Autel support for their help.
